Sefrou has been home to numerous cultures that have left their mark on the city and its inhabitants, their practices and ethos across history. Being a cross-roads market city, Sefrou was a necessary stop for travelers across Morocco. Now a predominantly Amazigh / Arab population inhabits the region, though traces of the Phoenicians, Romans, Jews, Christians and Sub-Saharan cultures still exist and distinguish this very small, yet historically rich, and significant city.

Today, Sefrou experiences ‘talent drain’, with a lack of industry and social activity, many active and ambitious youth leave the region for the bigger cities and beyond.

SAMA works with an arts and cultural program as a tool for development in the old city. With the Sefrou Museum of Multiculturalism (SMM) as a catalyst and future program of academic conferences, SAMA celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the region.

SAMA aims to be a force for positive change, fostering social cohesion, (urban) environmental enhancement, and local economic prosperity. Through our program we seek to promote cultural preservation, entrepreneurial stewardship, and a deepening sense of belonging, co-creating opportunities drawing from Sefrous past heritage all the while inspiring contemporary culture.

Our vision is to see SAMA Association become a catalyst for communities to come together to shape the old city of Sefrou’s future building on collaboration, credence, and creativity.
